Subject: Queen’s Champion Archery Tournament update
Security: Public
Location:Los Angeles, CA

Queen’s Champion Archery Tournament has been moved yet again! A crossbow championship event has been added: Bring your crossbows!

June 14, 2009

The Kingdom’s archers are called forth to compete for the honor of being the Queen’s Champion Archer and Crossbowman! The competitions will be held at Potrero County Park (24800 Potrero Park Road, San Diego, CA 91613) in the Barony of Calafia. In addition to competing for honor of Queen’s Archery Champions, there will be a number of novelty events open to all archers. Archery Authorizations will be performed before competitions begin. If you need to authorize, please come early.

Directions to the Site: From the west, take SR 94 approximately 40 miles from downtown San Diego. (From the east, Take I-8 to SD County Highway S1 south. Follow S1 to SR 94 at Campo. Follow SR 94 west 12 miles to Potrero.)

From either east or west, look for signs for ‘Potrero County Park’ along the highway in Potrero and turn north at Potrero Valley Road and proceed approximately 1/2 mile to Potrero Park Road. Turn right here and follow it into Potrero County Park. Follow the ‘SCA’ signs from here to the parking area. Proceed along the park access road keeping to the right (but avoiding a parking area on the right in the day use portion of the park) past the Ranger Station. Turn left onto the RV loop just past the Ranger Station and follow it as it loops to the right for 100 yards. Turn left on to a dirt road at the sign reading ‘Tent Camping and Group Camping’. A small parking lot is on your right as the dirt road crosses a shallow creek bed. If this lot is full, park along the left (west) side of the dirt road next to the tent camping sites.

Anyone wanting to camp in Potrero Park on the Saturday night before has to make their own reservation with San Diego County Parks. Please note all County Park Regulation will apply during the event.

For those wishing to pitch pavilions by the range, you are asked to arrive early to gain vehicular access to the spectator area next to the range to drop off your gear. This will occur between 8am and 9:45am only. DROP-OFF OF PAVILIONS AND SUNSHADES ONLY WILL BE ALLOWED. No set up is permitted while the owner’s vehicle is on the range. This process will take time, so please come early if you plan on setting up a pavilion.

A cooked lunch prepared by Lord Conall Mac Flain and Lady Agnesa de Milano is available, as supply lasts, of lemon chicken, herb and butter rice with vermicelli, fresh vegetable and a lemon ricotta in phillo casing. Suggested donation for the meal is $5.00 per plate.

The Queen’s Champion Archer will be selected based on an archer’s performance in three events representing the abduction of one of the ladies of the Queen’s Court. These will be ‘Pursuit’, ‘Back to the Wall’ and ‘Save the Maiden’. A crossbow champion will be determined in a Walking Crossbow Speed competition. To add to the suspense, details on how these events will be run will be available only on the day of the event. Novelty events will include a ‘William Tell’ Shoot, and a Bag Shoot.

Event Schedule:
Site Opens ................ 8:00am
Pavilion Drop-off Ends .... 9:45am

Caidan Events at Estrella, all are welcome to come.

Caid Royal Party, Friday Night, 8pm, Caid Royals

Come one, come all to the Caid Royal Encampment for what will surely be the BEST party at Estrella this year!

Their Royal majesties, Sven II and Kolfinna II will be hosting an open invitation (everyone can come) Royal Party in the Caidan Royal Encampment Friday evening at Estrella War 25. Starting at O'Dark thirty the festivities will commence with brews from those gods among men that we call our Caidan Brewers along with a selection of mixed drinks sure to meet your exacting standards.  Indulge yourself in a wide variety of snacks and drinks as you forget your sins (if you can) for a short time while mingling with old and new friends alike.  For those of you who have a competitive streak, compete in the Viking Olympics, marshaled by Her Majesty Kolfinna, and win the fame of Valhalla and free passage from the Valkyries.

Come by and enjoy the radiant company of Their Royal Majesties and a few hundred (thousand?) of their loving populace. Donations of party supplies are always welcome but ABSOLUTELY NOT necessary.  What is most important is that you bring yourself and have a grand time.

If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to ask the Royal Party Organizers, Ritter Augustine and Lady Luta at the following email address:  estrellaparty@sca-caid.org

Caid Court, Sunday Afternoon, 4pm, Caid Royals
We will be holding Caidan Court Sunday afternoon at 4pm. Come enjoy our final court of the war.

If you are planning to attend Coronation and need directions please refer to the Caid Status page at http://caidstatus.org/ which is not based on the Caid Server.

Please pass this along to anyone who might need the directions. All caid server based email lists are down as well.

I've started a new LJ community, sca_fiber_arts, with the hopes of creating an SCA specific forum of people into natural dyestuffs, fleece preparation, spinning, knitting, embroidery, braiding, kumihimo, lucet, fingerloop-braids, card-weaving, inkle-weaving, weaving cloth for costuming, fulling, and/or other very hands-on textile arts that go beyond purchasing cloth and sewing a costume for SCA events.

Please come join us, help cross-post the creation of the group, and otherwise get the word out. Also, feel free to come and introduce yourselves, share links to your journals and blogs, tell us about your projects, sources you've found, books you've read, sites you adore, and other tips to help us all become better artisans in our own personal fiber art!

Allo all. My mundane name is Caitlin and I belong to the Barony of Altavia (Pfft. I'm so cool, I was on TEs Thorin and Courtney's Court...Or something like that). Anyways, I can be found at a variety of the daytime events and at the TWA practice held the first Sunday of every month.
If you were at GWW, you probably heard about me - I ended up with stitches. BUT YEAH. Whenever I'm on the internet, I tend to come off as having a lot of energy. Guess it comes with the territory, yeah?

Warning; A lot of...interesting grammatics.

Hi all,

My husband and I are selling our pavilion. We live in San Diego (Calafia). If you're interested, please read on.

Panther Primitives rectangular marquee pavilion, 12' x 15' with seam engineering and 6-foot walls in regular flame retardant white canvas. Here are the "extras" we got with it:

10" Sod Flap
Ground Cloth
Pole Ties
Flat (Sun Porch) Fly
Scallops in George Washington style, Black

We opted to make all the poles, ropes, sliders and stakes ourselves, all of which are included in the sale. We are asking $900 for the entire package.

Set up, the tent is nice and roomy. It holds our king-size bed, two kid-size cots, our portable wardrobe, a table, all my husband’s armor and some bins, and there’s still walking room plus room for a couple of chairs.

Excellent. We purchased it in 2003 and it has been used at approximately 9-10 events. Following the manufacturer’s recommendations, at every tear-down we have been very careful to sweep all dirt and debris off each section before folding up the canvas. It has a few dirt stains on it, but otherwise looks quite clean. The only exception is the ground cloth, which got wet and muddy at one event. In between events, it has been stored in a dry, sheltered area.

We have a 3-year old and a 1-year old, and we really need to simplify our setup process. We otherwise love it and it has served us well, and we’d be keeping it if it wasn’t so time consuming with the little ones.

Thanks for looking! If you’re interested, please leave a comment and I will respond. I can also forward you a picture.
